Maestro AndréIn backgammon, every game starts the same way: same starting position, same number of checkers, same distance to travel. The only variable is the dice roll.
On the first turn, each player rolls one die. The one with the higher number goes first using both dice combined. For example, if you roll a 5 and your opponent rolls a 3, you play 5-3. Since each player rolls only one die, there's never a double on the first move.
This means there are only 15 possible combinations for the first move. And for each of these 15 combinations, decades of computer analysis have determined the best move.
