This is every backgammon player's favorite opening roll. In a single move, you place 2 checkers on the most strategic point on the board. You already have point 6 (5 checkers at the start) and now point 5 — it's the beginning of a prime at the heart of your home board.
No other first move is as strong. If you roll 3-1, smile — luck is on your side.
